Government Says October 7 Inquiry Bill Must Wait Until Next Knesset

The government informed the High Court of Justice that the Knesset could not complete legislation establishing a national-state commission of inquiry into the October 7 massacre before entering its election recess. The bill passed its first reading on July 6 but did not complete its second and third readings before the Knesset dispersed. The government said it intends to apply legislative continuity and finish the bill soon after the next Knesset convenes. It also asked the court to reject or strike the pending petitions, arguing that the issue lies at the center of the election campaign and judicial intervention would be inappropriate.
