Bennett Pledges Judicial Overhaul Repeal and Independence Declaration as Basic Law

Naftali Bennett pledged on October 21 to repeal what he described as the judicial overhaul laws when the next Knesset is formed. His statement listed legislation concerning the Judicial Selection Committee, the attorney general, the Police Internal Investigations Department and communications. Bennett also proposed giving the Declaration of Independence the status of a Basic Law and making it the opening chapter of an Israeli constitution. He said he would advance Basic Law: Legislation as part of that program, describing its aim as establishing Israel as a Jewish and democratic state.
