Opposition Participants Reportedly Fear Resistance to Repealing Judicial Laws

Participants in an opposition working group reportedly fear that some candidates on their own party lists could resist repealing coalition judicial legislation after the October 27 election. The concern centers on candidates who previously backed parts of the legislation, according to unnamed participants, and does not establish how they would vote. Representatives of Yisrael Beytenu, Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar, Naftali Bennett’s Beyahad and the Democrats have been preparing parliamentary measures, including replacing the Knesset speaker and repealing or delaying laws. Their discussions cover the attorney general, police internal investigations and the Judicial Selection Committee, with any action dependent on election results and parliamentary support.
