Liberman Proposes Replacing Knesset Speaker and Passing Defendant Law After Election

Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Liberman outlined a post-election parliamentary plan aimed at removing Benjamin Netanyahu. In a statement on October 17, he said his party would act immediately after the 26th Knesset is sworn in to replace Speaker Amir Ohana and elect a new speaker. He said the next step would be to pass the measure he calls the “defendant law” in three readings. Liberman presented the sequence as his proposed route to removing Netanyahu, without setting out the bill’s provisions in the statement.
