Iranian Foreign Minister Blames Israel for Ukraine's Caspian Strike

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of two naval vessels sailing across the Caspian Sea

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi alleged Sunday that Ukraine's deadly strike on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea was carried out at Israel's behest and warned that it could not go unanswered. Araghchi said one sailor was killed and called the vessel commercial, but he offered no evidence that Israel directed the operation. Ukraine said its forces struck vessels used to carry military cargo involving Iran. Ukraine's ambassador to Israel said the ship carried drone and missile components bound for Iran, while Tehran described the cargo as civilian.
