Gunfire, Window Damage Hit Two Jewish-Owned Toronto Bakeries

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of the shattered glass door and police tape outside a Jewish-owned Toronto bakery

Toronto police are investigating damage at two Kiva's Bagel Bar locations after one storefront was struck by gunfire and another window was shattered Sunday morning. Officers were called to Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue shortly after 8 a.m., then to the Bathurst Street and Steeles Avenue West area less than 30 minutes later. No injuries were reported, and investigators have not confirmed whether the incidents are connected or hate-motivated. Mayor Olivia Chow called the incidents vile and unacceptable, while B'nai Brith Canada said they were part of an escalating campaign of antisemitic intimidation.
