Cairo Talks Advance Competing Hamas Disarmament Roadmaps

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of seven masked armed Hamas fighters standing shoulder-to-shoulder before a weathered concrete wall

Mediators in Cairo are advancing talks on a roadmap for Gaza's next phase, but sources gave conflicting accounts of what Hamas would surrender. A diplomatic source said the plan requires all heavy and light weapons to pass to the technocratic Gaza committee, with tunnels, depots and production facilities dismantled under verification. A Hamas-linked source instead described agreed language for handing over and storing weapons, conditioned on an Israeli withdrawal and a halt to targeted killings, while Israeli-informed sources called the direction full capitulation. It remains unclear whether Israel and Hamas will approve the same text.
