A cargo vessel broadcast on VHF Channel 16 that it had been hit by an unknown projectile 20 nautical miles northeast of Al Khasab, Oman, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center. The notice, issued at 22:00 UTC on August 3 from military authorities, did not identify the vessel, projectile or attacker. UKMTO said authorities were investigating and advised vessels to transit with caution and report suspicious activity. The incident came as commercial shipping around the Strait of Hormuz remained under pressure amid the continuing U.S.-Iran conflict.
