Israel is holding dozens of Hamas operatives who tried to infiltrate Gaza militias cooperating with Israel, according to Israeli reports. Hamas repeatedly sent members to enter the groups, collect intelligence and assassinate their leaders, but the attempts were uncovered and the suspects detained. The effort focused on the militia led by Yasser Abu Shabab, described as one of the more established anti-Hamas forces operating in the Strip; one operative was reportedly stopped shortly before carrying out an assassination. The detainees were questioned by the Shin Bet and are awaiting a decision on prosecution.
