Syrian Army Raises Alert and Moves Forces Toward Iraqi Border

Regional reports said Syrian military units were ordered to maximum readiness and reinforcements moved toward the Iraqi frontier, while Damascus did not publicly explain the alert. IDF officials said the change stemmed from internal tensions in northern Syria, far from Israel, and was not connected to an Israeli move. They said Syrian forces are not deployed in the Golan buffer zone where the IDF operates, so no friction between the armies is currently expected. The military relayed its assessment to local authorities in the Golan Heights.
