Police Deny WhatsApp Reports of an Attack in the Tel Aviv District

The Israel Police issued a rare public clarification on Friday afternoon stating that there was no unusual criminal or terror incident in the Tel Aviv District, contradicting messages circulating in WhatsApp groups that claimed an attack had taken place in the city. Police said the reports originated in irresponsible pirate WhatsApp groups and asked the public not to distribute or forward the false messages, saying they were creating panic among citizens. The messages had described an assault in the city. The statement did not say who originated them or whether an investigation had been opened.
