Security Chiefs Warn Cabinet Hamas Signed Gaza Roadmap as Strategic Deception

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of an Israeli security cabinet session: three ministers in dark suits at a long polished table, the figure on the right speaking with both hands resting on the table, a colleague in an open-collar jacket seated at the left and a third minister behind them, with microphones, papers, a water bottle and an Israeli flag on a pole in the background.

Two documents on Gaza's future dominated an overnight security cabinet session: deployment of a multinational force in the Strip, and a 15-point roadmap running from disarmament to Palestinian statehood. Shin Bet chief David Zini warned that Hamas's signing is a strategic deception meant to buy time and keep Israel from resuming operations before the election, calling it a strategic ambush. Military Intelligence research chief Brig. Gen. Ofir Mizrahi-Rozen said Hamas accepted the 15 points without abandoning its vision of destroying Israel. Ministers Ze'ev Elkin, Bezalel Smotrich, Orit Strock and Avi Dichter demanded Netanyahu declare that Israel rejects the document. Netanyahu said Israel has submitted corrections to Washington.
