Ship Struck by Unidentified Projectile Off Oman Near the Strait of Hormuz

A vessel was struck by an unknown projectile 18 nautical miles east of Khasab, Oman, near the Strait of Hormuz, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre said Saturday in Warning 108-26. UKMTO said a verified source reported that the strike caused a fire, which was extinguished, and that the vessel and crew were safe with no reported environmental impact. Authorities are investigating and mariners were advised to transit with caution. No party claimed responsibility and the origin of the projectile was not identified. It is the fourth incident UKMTO has logged off Oman's Musandam Peninsula since August 2.
