New Haredi Party Leader Backs Service and Core Studies

Moti Leitner, chairman of the Haredi Public faction and deputy mayor of Beit Shemesh, said men dedicated full-time to Torah study should be able to continue without interruption, while most other Haredi men should perform IDF, national or civilian service. He argued that broader service would help protect full-time Torah scholars and backed positive incentives rather than arrests, sanctions or funding cuts. Leitner also supports teaching mathematics, English and civics in Haredi schools. The movement is seeking its own Knesset representation or places on the Shas or United Torah Judaism lists ahead of the October 27 election.
