Scalise and James Visit Michigan Synagogue After March Attack

U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Rep. John James visited Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, on Thursday to support the Jewish community after March’s attempted mass-casualty attack. A gunman rammed a truck carrying fireworks and gasoline into the synagogue and opened fire while about 140 children and staff were inside; no congregants were killed. James said the visit showed Congress was treating rising threats as an urgent national concern. He also highlighted his sponsorship of the Jewish American Security Act, which would increase funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program serving synagogues and other at-risk faith institutions.
