IDF Identifies Nuseirat Target as Hamas Commander Who Held Many Hostages

The IDF identified Sabhi Sami Mahmoud Shahut, killed Wednesday in Nuseirat, as a platoon commander in Hamas’s military wing who invaded Israel during the October 7 massacre. It said Shahut took part in holding many hostages throughout the war and joined the staged November 2023 transfer of returning hostages to the Red Cross during Operation Doors of Heaven. The military said he had recently tried to advance attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians. Southern Command forces remain deployed under the agreement and will continue acting to remove immediate threats, the IDF said.
