Katz Says Israel Warned Syria and Shared Intelligence With U.S. Before Airbase Strike

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of four damaged military helicopters scattered across an arid Syrian airbase, with dirt tracks and an earthen aircraft shelter in the distance, drawn in warm ochre and slate-blue chalk and pastel strokes with cross-hatching on sepia newsprint.

Katz said Israel warned Syria at the highest levels and shared intelligence with relevant U.S. authorities before approving the Abu al-Duhur airbase strike. He said clear intelligence indicated Turkey planned activity at the base that threatened Israeli security, and Syria ignored the warning. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Katz then authorized the strike after security consultations, and the operation damaged the base without reported casualties. U.S. envoy Tom Barrack said Washington was not warned and U.S. checks found no Turkish buildup; the accounts may distinguish intelligence sharing from operational notice.
