INS Drakon Leaves Germany for Israel, Completing Dolphin AIP Program

INS Drakon has departed Kiel for Israel after the Israeli flag was raised aboard, officially beginning its voyage. The submarine is Israel's sixth and the third and final Dolphin-class boat equipped with air-independent propulsion, completing the Dolphin AIP program. The Defense Ministry said a large security operation with German forces protected the departure, and a state ceremony is planned at Haifa naval base after arrival. Navy commander Maj. Gen. Eyal Harel said Drakon and the future Dakar class will give Israel longer range, greater mission endurance and more operational power.
