Katz Says Iran May Attack on Jewish Holidays, Israel Ready to Respond

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz seated in a studio interview and gesturing with both hands toward a partially visible interviewer, with flowers and blue studio panels behind him, drawn in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel with cross-hatching on sepia newsprint.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said at a conference that mounting U.S. pressure and economic strain could lead Iran to attack Israel over the Jewish holidays. Katz said Israel is ready both defensively and offensively and is coordinating with the United States. He said Iran has previously chosen Jewish holidays for attacks and warned that Israel would not accept action tied to Lebanon, Judea and Samaria, Gaza, or another pretext. Katz added that Israeli aircraft are ready to take off; the report did not describe a new intelligence warning or any change to Home Front Command instructions.
