The IDF and Shin Bet said a strike in southern Gaza killed Nael Abu Obeid, commander of Hamas’s Rafah Brigade and head of the military wing’s operations array. Abu Obeid was appointed after Mohammad Shabana was killed, and previously served as the brigade’s deputy commander and led the Tel al-Sultan and Yibna battalions. The joint statement said he directed attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians and worked to rebuild the brigade after it sustained severe damage during the war. Southern Command forces remain deployed under the agreement and will continue acting against immediate threats, the military said.
