Supreme Court Considers Delaying Ponevezh Yeshiva Eviction Until End of Academic Year

The Supreme Court on Monday considered extending a temporary stay of the order requiring Masoret HaTorah, led by Rabbi Shmuel Markovitz, to leave the Ponevezh campus in Bnei Brak. Justice Ofer Grosskopf proposed keeping the stay until 10 Av 5787, the end of the academic year, subject to written undertakings concerning departure, use of the Ponevezh name and prevention of violence. Rabbi Eliezer Kahaneman's side stressed its property rights and the need for separation. A NIS 10 million obligation arising from arbitration remains unresolved. No binding written decision had been issued by the hearing's conclusion.
