Special ID Service Ends After About 1,400 Applications Across Ten Offices

The Population and Immigration Authority completed a one-day identity-document service at ten participating offices across Israel on Tuesday, October 27, processing about 1,400 applications. Demand was especially high in Jerusalem, Ashkelon, Bnei Brak and Tel Aviv. The total covers the participating offices together; no separate figures were reported for those cities. The operation was intended to help people who needed identification to vote. The offices had been specially staffed to deal with the applications quickly. By the time the completion report was issued that evening, all ten participating offices had finished the special service and closed. In its October 19 announcement, the authority had described the service as issuing temporary identity cards for voting only. “No additional services will be provided,” the authority said. It instructed applicants to bring two current passport photographs and set the special opening hours for October 27 at 08:00–18:00. The participating offices were Jerusalem Center, Tel Aviv Center, Rishon LeZion, Kfar Saba, Bnei Brak, Beersheba, Ashkelon, Krayot, Nof HaGalil and Safed. These were the locations designated in the authority’s earlier announcement for the temporary voting-document service.
