First Families Begin Moving Into Geva Shomron in Northern Samaria

The first founding families began moving into Geva Shomron in northern Samaria on Wednesday morning, October 28. Caravans were installed at the former paratrooper brigade training-base site near Sha-Nur as trucks brought belongings and equipment for the new community. The founding group comes from Ramat Gan and includes alumni of the city's hesder yeshiva, associated with Rabbis Yehoshua Shapira and Ben-Zion Algazi. Shomron Regional Council head Yossi Dagan visited as the caravans arrived and recited the Shehecheyanu blessing with workers. Dagan said, "We're here to stay." The council describes Geva Shomron's establishment as part of its Reconnection program, pursued with Amana and the Settlement Division. The announced program encompasses 19 new communities in northern Samaria and forms part of the council's Million in Samaria vision. Wednesday's arrival brought founding residents to the site, following preparations for the community's establishment. Among those moving was Yitzhak Elhanan Drori, a violinist from Ramat Gan, together with his wife and six children. He said hearing about the yeshiva's founding group had prompted his family to join. An official establishment ceremony was scheduled for noon, with ministers, lawmakers, rabbis, council representatives and founding families expected to participate. Rabbi Yaakov Ariel was among the expected participants.
