Trump Claims His Action Against Iran Saved Israel and the Middle East
U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Friday that Israel and the entire Middle East would no longer exist if he had not prevented Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. In a Truth Social post published at 20:09 Israel time, he credited his own action with averting that outcome. The post presented this as Trump’s assessment, without providing a new account of Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Trump wrote: “Nobody wants to say that, but everybody knows it’s true!” He signed the statement as president. The post contained no announcement of a new military operation or agreement with Iran, and gave no new negotiating terms, inspection arrangements or timetable. It did not identify a particular operation or date for the action to which he referred. In an earlier statement on October 8, Trump said discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran were productive, while describing its economic and military condition as very bad. He said the blockade would remain fully in effect and that the United States would not attack Iran before the November 3 American midterm elections. He also reiterated that Iran would not obtain a nuclear weapon. Those were the positions he set out in October; Friday’s statement did not renew the earlier time-limited assurance against an attack.
