Egypt Urges Flexibility in Iran Call to Avert Renewed Regional Fighting
Published
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke by telephone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday evening, November 3, about efforts to prevent renewed fighting in the region. Egypt's Foreign Ministry said the conversation addressed the latest regional developments and concerns that military escalation could resume. Ministry spokesman Ambassador Nader Zaki described the call as part of regular consultation between the two ministers. They reviewed intensive efforts by regional partners to reduce tensions, give diplomacy priority and return to negotiations. According to the Egyptian account, those efforts seek a comprehensive agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties. Abdelatty urged all parties to demonstrate the necessary flexibility and engage seriously in efforts to find a political way out of the crisis. He said a political resolution would spare the region grave risks. His appeal for flexibility was directed at all sides, rather than presented as a request to Iran alone. The Egyptian minister also emphasized the security of Gulf states, describing it as an extension of Egyptian and Arab national security and a particular priority for Cairo. He called for continued restraint and more intensive diplomatic contacts to prevent military escalation. The Ministry's account announced no agreement, scheduled meeting or deadline arising from the call.
