News: Multiple American military aircraft suffered damage in strikes overnight on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, sources told @JimLaPorta and me. One A-10 Thunderbolt, known as the Warthog, was struck and left with a missing wing. Roughly eight F-15s sustained light damage and were placed back into service. American forces in Jordan launched more than 30 Patriots missiles defending against the Iranian strikes. The overnight damage came after the US attacked five Iranian tankers in retaliation for Iran targeting a U.S. Navy warship. Trump says he "had a great conversation" with Putin, who "is wanting to make a deal." Trump in Oval described Iranian actions against protesters. They use "machine guns and sometimes the snipers. They like the snipers better because all they do is have a crowd of 200,000 people, and a person goes down here right between the eyes, and they'll have three snipers doing it, and it's a horrible thing to watch."

VP tells me Trump's Kharg Island bombing video was a warning. "The president likes to switch it up on social media a little bit. He would be the first to say he doesn't make an announcements about military action on social media, but I think that he's sending a message to the Iranians." Iran continues to shoot at commercial shipping and is "behaving like a terrorist country." Trump message is "you've got to stop, or there’s going to be some consequences," @VP said ahead of flight to Michigan.
One of Trump's closed door meetings Wednesday was with Marc Thiessen, a White House speechwriter for President George W. Bush, who is a hawkish voice on Iran and has been critical of VP JD Vance -- and vice versa. Trump and Thiessen had a generalized conversation, although Iran came up. They'd met previously, with the VP in the room. Thiessen, who is unpopular with Trump's base, doesn't appear to be in the press secretary running, I'm told. @CBSNews
