UNIFIL Says Israeli Flags in South Lebanon Violate 1701; IDF Cites Hezbollah Threats

UNIFIL said Monday that Israeli flags planted along a main coastal highway in southern Lebanon violate Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war with Hezbollah. Spokesperson Kandice Ardiel said peacekeepers observed several flags in Lebanese territory, including on the Naqoura to Tyre road and in Naqoura village, and urged all actors to avoid provocative action. The IDF said its forces operate in southern Lebanon to remove Hezbollah threats to Israeli civilians and troops, in accordance with international law, and that Israel is not acting against the Lebanese state or its citizens. UNIFIL separately recorded an average of 137 projectiles per day between August 5 and 16.
