U.S. Envoy Clarifies Golan Remarks, Says Trump Policy Is Unchanged

U.S. envoy Tom Barrack said Sunday that American policy recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights remains unchanged, clarifying comments he made in a Friday interview. Barrack said he had been describing the territory's historical status, “not an endorsement of the United Nations' position.” He said President Donald Trump set U.S. policy in 2019, when a White House proclamation formally recognized the Golan Heights as part of Israel. Barrack added that his earlier point concerned why he did not expect annexation in Lebanon and why negotiated agreements are more durable than territorial maps.
