Attorney General Asks High Court to Freeze Karhi's Communications Law

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara asked the High Court of Justice on Thursday evening to issue an interim injunction halting Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi's broadcasting law. She wrote that the order is needed "to stop the severe harm to the free media market that the law will cause," and said the law "was passed in a flawed process and includes an extreme accumulation of substantive defects." The state's response was submitted ahead of the court's hearing on the matter. In July, following a petition by Democrats faction chair MK Efrat Rayten and MK Eitan Ginzburg, the court issued a temporary order delaying provisions set to take effect on publication until it rules on the injunction requests.
