High Court Hears KAN Petition as Broadcaster Faces Leadership Vacuum

Israel's High Court heard petitions over the stalled appointments to KAN's governing council, which has five serving members and needs seven for a quorum. Three current members remain only under temporary court orders, while CEO Golan Yochpaz's four-year term ends November 6. Hatzlacha asked the court to extend Yochpaz's term until 60 days after the council resumes operating, a proposal backed by Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara, the five members and Yochpaz. Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi opposes a court-ordered extension, arguing that the justices lack authority to appoint or extend the broadcaster's chief executive.
