Strock and Shin Bet Chief Zini Clash Over West Bank Violence, Report Reveals

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of an empty Samaria mountain landscape with a tree at left, adapted from Mary Newbold Sargent’s archival 1904 painting; historical geographic context for the cabinet dispute, not a depiction of the meeting or new violence.

A newly disclosed account of a security-cabinet discussion describes a clash between Settlement Minister Orit Strock and Shin Bet chief David Zini over violence in Judea and Samaria. Strock accused security officials of focusing on wrongdoing by Israeli settlers while neglecting Palestinian attacks that endangered and injured shepherds, and demanded action on those attacks. Zini rejected her characterization and urged all of Israel's leadership to condemn violence, saying it harmed settlement and security. Strock replied that she regularly condemned violence in radio interviews; the account did not describe a new cabinet decision.
