Netanyahu Says Next Defense Minister Should Come From Likud

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the next defense minister should come from Likud when asked about National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s ambition to hold the post. He did not identify a candidate. Netanyahu said he hoped to form another government with his current coalition partners, with Likud setting government policy. He said he would first seek a majority of at least 61 seats, form a government and establish its principles, after which other parties accepting those principles could join. His remarks were disclosed ahead of the October 27 election.
