U.S. Embassy Warns of Iranian Threats to Officials and Houthi Attacks
The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem issued a security alert dated November 6 urging Americans in the Middle East to remain vigilant over Iranian efforts to target U.S. government officials and an increased threat of attacks by Iranian-supported Houthis. The notice also warned of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions across the region. The embassy urged Americans to “exercise heightened vigilance.” It said Iran and groups supporting it could target U.S. interests abroad, including American businesses and other institutions. The alert cited Houthi attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, saying those attacks had caused civilian casualties and serious disruption to travel. It warned that hostilities could escalate rapidly. For Americans travelling to or from the region, the embassy advised monitoring airport and airline operations and preparing contingency plans. Its safety precautions included identifying the nearest shelter, downloading alerts from Israel’s Home Front Command and keeping supplies of food, water and medication. During aerial attacks, it advised staying away from windows and fallen debris and following instructions from local authorities. Despite the warning, the embassy said its consular sections in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv remained open for routine and emergency services.
