Sweden Expels Iranian Embassy Official Amid Threats to Jewish, Israeli Interests

Sweden summoned Iranian Ambassador Hojatollah Faghani and ordered an unnamed Iranian Embassy official to leave, saying the official's activities were incompatible with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer said Iran has long conducted security-threatening activity in and against Sweden, including through criminal networks, targeting regime opponents and Jewish and Israeli interests. Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said the action was taken to protect Swedish citizens and Swedish interests. Sweden's Security Service separately said Iran continues security-threatening activity in and against the country.
