Iran Threatens to Bar Ships Backing Frozen-Asset Seizures From Hormuz

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of three Iranian fast-attack craft approaching a merchant vessel in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya joint military command said Tuesday that ships belonging to companies or countries supporting the use of frozen Iranian assets would be barred from the Strait of Hormuz. Spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari said Iranian forces would enforce the threat, issued after President Donald Trump said Iranian funds under U.S. control could pay for damage from Tehran's attacks on shipping. The announcement came as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Trump in Washington to discuss Iran and regional security. The strait carried about one-fifth of globally traded oil and gas before the war.
