Oman Proposes Joint Regional Hormuz Management Mechanism to Iran

Oman presented Iran with a regionally backed proposal for a joint mechanism to manage the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports citing a Gulf source. Under the plan, Iran would not exercise sole control of the waterway, and users would make voluntary contributions rather than compulsory toll payments. The model follows arrangements in the Strait of Malacca, where contributions fund navigation, environmental protection, search and rescue. The proposal comes as mediators seek to stabilize shipping after U.S.-Iran fighting disrupted a route that carried about one-fifth of global energy supplies before the conflict.
