U.S. Brokers Deal to Remove Nuclear Material From Clandestine Syrian Site

The International Atomic Energy Agency will soon remove nuclear material held at a clandestine Syrian site known as Site 99, under understandings the Trump administration reached with Israel and Syria. Israeli and U.S. officials said the material includes yellowcake left from the Al-Kibar reactor project Israel destroyed in 2007, and that it could serve in a dirty bomb rather than a nuclear weapon. Israel tracked the site for years, bombed its entrances after the Assad regime fell, and warned it would strike again if the material stayed. The agency and Damascus signed the removal agreement three weeks ago, and officials said the material has not yet been taken out.
