Syria Says It Seized Rifles and RPG Rounds Bound for Lebanon From Tartus

Syria's Interior Ministry said its internal security forces, acting with the General Intelligence Service, foiled an attempt to smuggle a shipment of weapons and ammunition from Tartus province to Lebanon. A statement on the ministry's Telegram channel said the seizure covered automatic rifles, RPG rounds, weapons storage units and various types of ammunition prepared for smuggling. The ministry described the operation as part of efforts to prevent weapons smuggling across Syria's borders. It named no recipient in Lebanon and reported no arrests. In July the ministry said specialized units stopped a large weapons shipment at the Syrian-Iraqi border, saying then that Syria would not serve as a corridor for smuggling.
