Likud Files to Disqualify Ra’am and Mansour Abbas From Election

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Mansour Abbas facing the viewer in a black suit jacket and open-collar white shirt against a textured sepia, ochre and slate-blue background.

Likud submitted a request to the Central Elections Committee seeking to disqualify Ra’am and its chairman, Mansour Abbas, from competing in the coming Knesset election. The filing alleges support for an armed struggle by a terrorist organization against the State of Israel. It also alleges that Ra’am denies the existence of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. The report did not provide a timetable for the committee’s consideration or include an immediate response from Ra’am.
