Abbas Postpones Palestinian Legislative Election to September 11, 2027

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree on October 10 setting simultaneous presidential and legislative elections for September 11, 2027. It cancels the earlier decree scheduling legislative elections for November 28, 2026. The presidency's announcement said the change followed a decision by the Palestine Liberation Organization's Executive Committee and consultations with Palestinian factions and political forces. It said the postponement would allow a national dialogue on political unity and election arrangements. The Central Elections Commission was instructed to prepare, organize and supervise the simultaneous votes under the general election law.
