Moed Challenges Canada's Palestinian Recognition Over Abbas's Election Delay

Israel's ambassador to Canada, Iddo Moed, challenged Ottawa's recognition of Palestinian statehood on October 11, saying Mahmoud Abbas had failed to fulfill the commitments Canada cited. Moed pointed to the postponement of Palestinian elections to September 2027 and alleged that payments to terrorists and other promised reforms remained unresolved. He asked whether Canada should acknowledge that its recognition had been futile. Canada's September 21, 2025, recognition statement cited Palestinian Authority commitments to governance reform, demilitarization and general elections in 2026 in which Hamas would have no role.
