Abbas Sets September 11, 2027, for Palestinian Presidential and Legislative Elections

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a decree postponing Palestinian presidential and legislative elections to September 11, 2027. The decree cancels the Palestinian Legislative Council election that had been scheduled for November 28, 2026, and sets the September date for both ballots. The new timetable was reported on October 10. The Palestinian Central Elections Commission's institutional history records a presidential election in January 2005 and Legislative Council elections in January 2006.
