Al-Sheikh Tells France Palestinian Parliamentary Elections Will Be Delayed

Hussein al-Sheikh, deputy to Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas, informed France that Palestinian parliamentary elections planned for November 28 would be postponed by several months. Al-Sheikh said the vote could not be held because conditions had deteriorated across the Palestinian territories. The delay was described in terms of several months, with no replacement polling date specified. The account published on October 9 did not state when Al-Sheikh delivered the notice to France or include a French response.
