Eisenkot Questions Shin Bet Appointments, Calls for Loyalty to the State

Speaking Sunday at the National Young People’s Conference in Jerusalem, Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of Yashar!, said officials must be loyal to the state rather than to whoever appointed them. He said he had known the Shin Bet chief for decades and described him as an outstanding field officer. Eisenkot nevertheless voiced concern that people close to decision-makers were being appointed instead of professionals. He said the matter would be examined on its merits “in three weeks,” and stressed that appointed officials should act according to their mission.
