Netanyahu Says Sinwar Would Be Alive Had He Followed Eisenkot’s Approach

Benjamin Netanyahu marked the second anniversary of Yahya Sinwar’s killing by criticizing Gadi Eisenkot in two statements published on October 16. Netanyahu asserted that the Hamas leader would still be alive had he followed Eisenkot’s approach. In the longer statement, he credited Israeli soldiers and his insistence on completing operations in Rafah and the Philadelphi Corridor with Sinwar’s killing. Netanyahu portrayed Eisenkot’s position as favoring an end to the war and withdrawal from Gaza, presenting the disagreement as a contrast between their approaches.
