Yair Golan Says Political Opinions Must Not Lead to Police Action

Yair Golan said on October 12 that every Israeli, on both the right and the left, should be free to criticize the government, demonstrate and write harsh criticism of the authorities. In a social-media statement, he pledged to protect those rights and said nobody should fear the police because of a political opinion. Golan was responding to what he described as Amir Ohana’s claim that he would arrest right-wing Israelis over social-media posts in a future government. He rejected that characterization and presented protection of political expression as his position.
