Danon Accuses Hamas of Taxing Humanitarian Aid to Fund Rearmament

Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon accused Hamas on Tuesday of imposing illegal charges on humanitarian aid to finance its rearmament and preserve its control. He said Israel remained committed to cooperating with international organizations providing professional, impartial and nonpolitical humanitarian assistance. His statement included a screenshot of a report on the World Food Programme’s aid cuts in Gaza. WFP said on Monday that funding shortages had reduced its monthly food and cash assistance from 1.6 million people to 1.1 million, an explanation separate from Danon’s allegation.
