Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Türkiye Prepare Urgent Chiefs-of-Staff Session Under Makkah Pact

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in New York on September 24 under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, Saudi Arabia said. The ministers discussed preparations to convene an urgent session of the three countries’ chiefs of staff to explore support for the kingdom under the pact, which states that aggression against any signatory is an attack on all. They condemned attacks targeting Makkah and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia and affirmed its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. They also reviewed progress toward the pact’s operational launch.
