IDF Hijacking Procedure Used in Flydubai Incident Named World Trade

The IDF's aircraft-hijacking procedure used in the Flydubai incident is named “World Trade,” according to details permitted for publication on October 10. The procedure provides for fighter aircraft to respond to hijackers or attackers in order to prevent further harm to passengers, crew and strategic assets. Possible responses include escorting the aircraft to a safe airport or, when necessary, bringing it down. Destroying a civilian aircraft is described as an exceptionally extreme decision, taken following consultations among senior security officials acting under the direction of the political leadership.
