UK Sanctions Two Iranians as Allies Condemn Tehran’s Overseas Attacks

Britain imposed an immediate asset freeze, travel ban and director disqualification on two Iranian nationals for overseas hostile activity. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband named IRGC counterespionage chief Ruhollah Bazghandi and criminal-network facilitator Shahram Ali Reza Tamarzadeh Jakki, and summoned Iran’s ambassador. A joint statement by 29 countries recognized Britain’s attribution of Iranian involvement in the September 27 RAF Fairford incident and condemned Tehran’s overseas threats. The signatories also described a recent European campaign targeting Jewish communities, Iranian journalists and U.S. interests, claimed by Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya, and pledged stronger coordination to investigate, disrupt and prosecute hostile activity.
